Protect Yourself from ATM & PoS Skimming

As we go into the Ember season, there is a need to remain vigilant against fraudsters who deploy skimming devices to steal card information on ATMs and PoS terminals as transactions increase on these platforms.

Skimming occurs when criminals attach illegal devices to ATMs or PoSterminals to copy card details and capture PINs using hidden cameras or fake keypads. This allows them to clone cards and withdraw funds fraudulently.

How to Spot a Tampered ATM/PoS Terminal

  1. Card Slot: Check if the slot feels loose, bulky, or unusual. Genuine slots are firmly fixed.
  2. Keypad: If it feels raised, sticky, or abnormal, it may be a fake overlay.
  3. Hidden Cameras: Watch out for tiny holes or suspicious attachments near the screen or keypad.
  4. Trust Your Instincts: If the machine looks damaged or unusual, use another ATM—preferably inside a bank branch.

The 3 Golden Rules of Protection

  1. Always cover your PIN when entering it, blocking any hidden cameras.
  2. Use in-branch ATMs for greater security.
  3. Opt for Chip & PIN transactions. Avoid swiping your card whenever possible.

If You Suspect Fraud

  • Do not use the device; immediately alert the bank or the security.
  • Report unauthorized transactions at once via our 24/7 Customer Care lines: 070034335489 / 09087989069.

Your PIN, OTP, and token codes are strictly personal. Your bank will never request these details by phone, SMS, or email.

Stay alert. Stay secure.
