Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its devotion to community development and social welfare through the expansion of its Fidelity Food Bank initiative, a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility programme focused on addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable households across Nigeria.
Launched in April 2023, the initiative has grown into one of the Bank’s most impactful social investment projects, providing food relief to underserved communities across the country’s six geopolitical zones. Through strategic partnerships with credible community-based organisations, Fidelity Bank has continued to deliver practical support to families affected by limited access to basic nutrition.
Recent outreach programmes in Abuja, Kano and Rivers State further demonstrate the scale, consistency and relevance of the initiative. In Garki, Abuja, the Bank partnered with Abbasid Foundation to distribute essential food items to hundreds of residents, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to inclusive support for vulnerable communities.
Speaking during the exercise, Regional Bank Head- Abuja 1, Fidelity Bank, Vanessa Mordi, said the initiative reflects the Bank’s broader commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.
“This initiative reflects our deep commitment to corporate social responsibility and our belief that businesses must play an active role in supporting the communities that sustain them,” Mordi said.
She added that the intervention goes beyond seasonal relief and is designed to create lasting value through collaboration.
“Our partnership with Abbasid Foundation allows us to reach more people and extend our impact across communities that need it most. We remain committed to deepening these collaborations in the months and years ahead,” she said.
In Kano State, Fidelity Bank distributed more than 2,000 food packs to residents across several communities, beginning with Kabuga Community. The outreach, implemented in partnership with Misnoory Foundation, was aimed at easing the burden of food insecurity among underserved families.
In his comments at the event, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, described the Food Bank as one of the Bank’s most important CSR interventions and noted its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 2, Zero Hunger.
“The Fidelity Food Bank is one of our major CSR projects and we currently work with 19 partners who help identify underserved communities in need of support across the country. Today, we are here in Kabuga Community to distribute food items to the men and women of this community,” Nwagboh said.
He added that the exercise would continue across other communities in Kano State to ensure that more families benefit from the intervention.
“We started here in Kabuga Community, and in the following days, we will continue the distribution exercise across other communities in Kano State to ensure more families benefit without the burden of transportation,” he said.
In Rivers State, the Bank extended the initiative to Ibaa Community in Emohua Local Government Area, where food packs were distributed to more than 1,500 households. Addressing beneficiaries and community leaders during the outreach, Regional Bank Head – Rivers and Bayelsa 1 and South Commercial, Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Ibisiki Eretoru, said the Bank’s growth is closely tied to the wellbeing of its host communities.
“At Fidelity Bank, we recognize that our success is closely tied to the wellbeing of our host communities. This is why we consistently scale up our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives with a view to improving living conditions, fostering sustainable development, and contributing towards poverty reduction,” he said.
He further noted that the intervention was about restoring hope and improving the quality of life of families.
“Today’s distribution goes beyond the sharing of food items, it is about uplifting lives, creating opportunities, and strengthening our commitment to the wellbeing of families in this community. Through this outreach, we are contributing our quota towards reducing hunger, malnutrition, and even infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria,” he stated.
The impact of the initiative was also acknowledged by community leaders, partners and beneficiaries. In Garki, the Emir of Garki, HRM Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi, commended Fidelity Bank for its consistent humanitarian interventions, while a beneficiary, Hussein Abubakar, described the outreach as timely and meaningful.
“We, the community of Garki are very happy and we really appreciate what Fidelity Bank has done for us,” Abubakar said.
In Rivers State, traditional leader, Eze Somba Ohaka, praised the Bank for extending the programme to Ibaa Community.
“This programme has brought joy and relief to many homes and demonstrates the Bank’s genuine commitment to humanity,” he said.
Through the Fidelity Food Bank initiative, Fidelity Bank continues to demonstrate that impactful CSR must respond directly to the needs of communities. By combining purposeful partnerships, consistent outreach and a clear focus on hunger reduction, the Bank is strengthening community welfare, promoting dignity and supporting national efforts to improve livelihoods across Nigeria.
